The 2022 Chalgrove Festival 10K Race

The Future of the Chalgrove Festival 10K Race - Committee Members needed to ensure the running of the 2023 Race

Another successful Chalgrove Festival 10K was completed at the 2022 May Day Festival; as usual, it was very well received by the runners, all the spectators and the Village in general.  It has truly become a staple part of our village’s life, and our distinctive t-shirt designs are legendary!

Since we began organising the 10K in 2010 it has grown from a small country race to be part of Oxfordshire Athletics Grand Prix Series this year, an astounding rise in its profile; no other non-running club organisation has ever been awarded Oxon Grand Prix status.  It is now one of the most successful and talked about running events in the county, both by those who run in it and by those who know about it within the running community.  We have a very strong brand to take forward.

The current Committee have been together since that beginning twelve years ago, and all of us now feel that the time has come to stand down, and pass the baton to a new team to take the race forward.

We fully realise that taking on such a task is no small undertaking, and requires a dedicated team of five or six people to develop the race in future years.  With that in mind, the current Committee are of course prepared to pass on their considerable collective experience and knowledge by supporting any new committee for the first year.  You may be reading this and thinking “I would like get involved but don’t know anyone else who would”; that is not a problem - as long as we get enough individuals interested, we can introduce you all and help you settle in.  You do not have to be a runner to do this, but just enjoy organising and getting things done; it is very rewarding.  An indication of the various volunteer roles which go to make up the race may be found here.

We have set a deadline of early October for getting a new team in place, as that is when the planning for the next edition of the race begins.  Sadly, if a new team cannot be found by then the current Committee will step down and the Race will cease in its current form.  That would be such a shame for Chalgrove and the village organisations which have benefitted from the donations we have been able to contribute over the years.
